Just Incase You Missed It
It’s been a pretty full week in the realm of pop culture. Miley’s been talking about her ‘movement’ / getting weird with Uncle Terry / messing with a legend. Rihanna’s been proving my point that Miley’s Wrecking Ball video was nothing to get so twerked up about (yep I went there). Lorde’s gone and hit number one and Jennifer Lawrence has told Hollywood to “go fuck yourself.”
Here is your week in pop culture:
1. Miley’s doco, Miley: The Movement, aired last night on MTV. In it she talks about her movement (a word she prefers to transition as, as she says, she is still the same human.). In it you see exactly what went into THAT VMA’s performance which is interesting, but what is even more interesting is how in control of everything Miley is.
2. Miley’s shoot with Terry Richardson hit the internet:
People are pretty upset about it because “she’s wearing almost nothing.” I STILL DONT GET WHY THIS IS SUCH A HUGE DEAL.
3. Musical legend Sinead O’Connor wrote an open letter to Miley offering her advice and warning her that she is being ‘pimped by the music business.’
I totally respect it but I just wonder, why the need for the ‘Open’ letter? Pretty sure she could have got it to Miley in a way that didn’t involve the entire universe.
Miley responded by Tweeting this:
To which Sinead said this:
I don’t know, the whole thing is just gotten a bit out of hand.
Rihanna’s new video for her song ‘Pour It Up’ contains 100% more twerking, 100% more ass and 100% more sexualizing of inanimate objects than Miley’s.
And yet people are all good with it.
There is almost no way you missed this bit of pop culture news but I’m going to mention it anyway. LORDE hit number one on the US Billboard Charts! It’s awesome cause she is.
Jennifer Lawrence covers UK Harpers Bazaar this month. In the accompanying interview she talks about how she’s had to deal with shit like people telling her she “was fat (and) that (she) was going to get fired if (she) didn’t lose a certain amount of weight.”
She goes on to say that if anyone says that to her again her response will be: “You can go fuck yourself.”
Thus is why we love her. Heaps.
Oh and I almost forgot! Britney’s WORK BITCH video also dropped this week. Everything about it is vintage Britney (90s) except maybe the vocals (auto tune).
The song might be shit but it’s pretty damn good to run too.
