New Zealand Fashion Week 2011 – MisteR
A cute little show was presented to the audience around midday on Day 3 of NZFW 2011. MisteR, a label from Christchurch, showcased their collection, “Not So Grimm”, which featured many tartan prints, as was also seen at Salasai, and preppy Gossip Girl-esque outfits that would make both Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass cry.
The ideology behind the collection was very touching; inspired by the stories by The Brothers Grimm, models were styled to look like dolls (check out cuties Irene Rose Lewis and Sophie Doull, both from Red 11). Having done an interview with the designers, Mickey Lin and Ra Thompson, it was evidently clear that the duo had really wanted to bring some joy and liveliness to Christchurch, as well as the rest of the nation, after the shock of the earthquakes, especially having experienced the trauma firsthand.
Cute gingerbread men and hearts, statement bows, and a lot of plaid and tartans, the collection was definitely the cutest and most intriguing of the day. The goodie bags even contained bow ties, all made in different fabrics and colors. At the end of the finale, the designers received a standing ovation – not too bad for their debut at Fashion Week. We hope they carry on doing what they do – nothing beats originality!
