NZFW Day#3 – Huffer

New Zealand Fashion Week 2011 – Huffer

Backstage at Huffer, I saw too many things I liked, especially the ultra-cool novel trick designer Steve Dunstan showed us – a jacket that turns into a laptop bag. I had also been told that there would be a little surprise at the end, which I was really looking forward to. When the show started, a little movie clip came on, creating an imagery that the collection would be fitting for a holiday down at the snow. Quite appropriately, snow did fall at the Huffer show – models were sprinkled with ‘snow’ as they walked out, which made me feel a bit better about missing the day when it actually did snow in Auckland, while I was in Sydney.

Checkered shirts, asymmetric prints, sweet cardigans, varsity jackets, chunky cable knits, garments tied around shoulders and waists – like how all the cool kids slung their clothes in primary school, skirts accentuating hips, turbans and cute pom pom beanies, the collection was a very casual and wearable range that I believe will be highly coveted next winter.

And now for the surprise – after the last model had walked off, sticking to the Americano concept seen throughout the range (and also at Trelise Cooper on Day 2), out popped blondie Aja Rock from a cake, popping a champagne bottle, and wearing a bikini featuring the American stars and stripes. Models then filed out and started dancing on the runway as confetti flew everywhere – it was definitely a party not to be missed.
